In this section I will tell you about the trips I make in France to discover wines and wine makers, to see how they work and their lives in the vineyards of France.
I'll do my best to take good photos to show the beauty of the french wine regions as well as the quiet, charming villages within this vineyard country ... and I hope to stir in you the desire to come to visit and to taste the wine.
Once in France there are a number of different ways to meet winemakers and taste wines.
Certainly one can go to the supermarket, (just like in the USA), buy a bottle and, if you're lucky (?) you'll enjoy a good wine !...
Or, by watching my "Events" page you can go to exhibitions, and you'll meet winemakers and taste their wines. Of course, they are pouring from their best bottles. I do this as often I can, But,, my favorite way to discover wine and winemakers is to go to the actual location, the estate, and share, for a short while, life in the cellar, to see, smell and taste everything that goes into the business producing the bottle.. the wine.. you'll enjoy in your glass ! When you visit in this way you will get the opportunity to taste wines recently bottled but not yet for sale and new wines from barrel and, at the right time of year, you can sample new fermenting juice. When I give you information about a wine, or winemaker, you can drink in confidence ! It will be a good one, knowing where it came from and the man that made it !
My trips to the french wine areas are a real pleasure. Discovering a new (to me) region, each one revealing it's particular character, the nearby countrysides, the quiet villages atop the hills and the cities nestled in the valleys and spreading up the slopes meeting the vineyards, Driving slowly along winding country roads is fantastic. You can smell the fresh air, see people working in the vineyards and fields, each one busy with his own job! My last trip was in Beaujolais,In the middle of September 2009! You'll find all my commentaries and pictures on a next page.
